About Chris

I learned about geographic differences in new car retail prices and inventory levels while helping new car dealers trade vehicles with each other. I drive a 2018 STI and love the brand, so I put this weekly newsletter together to help others know where to get a great deal on a new Subaru.

Analysis

Hot Markets 🔥

Boston, New York, and the San Francisco metro areas had more of the best priced Subarus this week than any other part of the country.

National Inventory Levels 👀

Hundreds of Impreza Sports hit dealer websites this week, with that trim level seeing a +40% increase in inventory nationally. While the RS trim level took a -26% hit in national inventory listed for sale.

Nearly 1,300 Crosstrek Premiums were added to dealer websites this week, which is a +38% increase in national inventory for that model and trim level.

And it looks like there is a big push going on for 2025 Foresters. All trim levels, except the Wilderness, saw a +8% to +19% increase in inventory nationally.

Model Watch 💰️

When I was searching for deals this week, I had a hard 2024 filter set and couldn’t believe how few Foresters were listed… Then I remembered that the 2025s are out and boy are they…

2024 Foresters only represent 12% of the total Forester inventory in the United States this week. 2024 Outbacks represent 56% of the total Outback inventory in the United States.

So what?

The base MSRP listed on the Subaru America website shows that Foresters are increasing in price 6% to 10% depending on the trim level you are looking to buy.

Plus, there is not currently a 2025 Wilderness trim level for sale on the market and I’m only seeing 232 Wilderness trim level units available for sale around the country.

So, keep those things in mind if you are in the market for one of MotorTrend’s top ranked compact SUVs.
